USC Law wins best team memorial in Jessup, world’s largest mooting competition

The University of San Carlos College of Law’s mooting team won the Best Team Memorials at International Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition held on April 6, 2025, in Washington, DC, USA.

From left: Atty. Daryl Bretch Largo, Yovellie Delubio, Mel Joseph Castro, Bri Unabia, and Atty. Rhomeiljustein Redoble.

The Carolinian team, composed of Bri Unabia, Mel Joseph Castro, and Yovellie Delubio, received the coveted Alona Evans Award after besting all the team memorials submitted by 161 national winners from 88 jurisdictions all over the world. The mooting team also received the M. Cherif Bassiouni Award as the second best team memorials in the national rounds.

A memorial is a legal document that outlines the facts, authorities, and legal arguments supporting a team’s position. Winning the best memorial out of hundreds of submissions from different law schools globally places a mooting team among the best in the world.

On top of grabbing memorial awards, USC Law recorded a 4-0 straight win and finished as one of the Top 16 teams in the Preliminary Rounds.

The Jessup Cup is the world’s largest, oldest, and most prestigious international law moot court competition—and USC Law has been consistently making its mark. Carolinian mooters reached the Global Rounds semi-finals in 2021 and was named the Best Respondent Team in the World in 2023

Behind USC Law’s consistent Jessup performance is Head Coach Asst. Dean Atty. Daryl Bretch Largo, Vice President for Administration Atty. Joan S. Largo, and assistant coach Atty. Rhomeiljustein Redoble, with the support of Dean Atty. Jose Glenn Capanas, Atty. Rashid V. Pandi, and Atty. Mark Lawrence Badayos.
