The University of San Carlos Moot Court Team (above) continued its winning streak as it participated for the first time in the 10th Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition in Geneva, Switzerland from July 15-20, 2018.

USC Law ranked fifth in the world, with its mooter Rhomeljustein Redoble being named as fourth best oralist of the competition.

Over 150 teams from universities all around the world joined the competition. Only forty teams qualified to compete at the Palais des Nations after an initial round of regional contest across the 5 UN regions.

According to the organizers, this year’s moot is especially significant because not only does it mark the tenth year of the competition, it also coincides with the centenary celebration of the great Nelson Mandela – the man whom the moot is named after.

The Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition is presented by the Centre for Human Rights, based at the University of Pretoria, in partnership with the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Geneva, Switzerland. It is dubbed as the Olympic Games of Human Rights and is held in Geneva, Switzerland, considered as the human rights capital of the world.

This recent accolade followed its historic win in the Price Media Law Moot Court Competition in Oxford University, Oxford, United Kingdom in April 2018 (see related story here).
