USC celebrates World Water Day through its 1st Water Conference

Last March 22, 2023, the University of San Carlos, in cooperation with the Office of the External Relations and Internationalization and the Department of Civil Engineering, organized its 1st Water Conference held at the Michael Richartz Conference Center.

This event was just in time for the World Water Day celebration. The activity was participated by the students and professors from Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences and USC, the Water Resources Cebu Foundation Inc. (WRCFI), the Cebu City LGU, and the Mandaue City LGU.

Students from Rotterdam University in the Netherlands presented different thesis studies related to the civil engineering profession.

Engr. Nenita Jumao-as, WRCFI director, also presented the state of Cebu’s water resources. According to her, Cebu has sufficient water resources. Solutions such as the building of water impounding structures were already suggested and proposed in the past decade. Due to differences in political affinity and lack of political will to push for the implementation of these projects, however, this has resulted in the inadequacy of potable water supply for consumers. She encouraged the new generation of professionals to learn from the mistakes of the past to avoid experiencing a water crisis today.
