USC BOT member, alumnus Acevedo among ‘People of the Year 2024’

Eugene S. Acevedo, a USC B.S. Physics alumnus and a member of the University’s Board of Trustees, is the only Philippine banker included in the ‘People of the Year 2024’ list by People Asia.

Eugene S. Acevedo, RCBC President and Chief Executive Officer, is named among People of the Year 2024.

Dubbed “The Consummate Banker,” Acevedo is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC), the fastest-growing bank in the country.

Acevedo played an important role in making banking accessible and relevant to millions of Filipinos, especially those in unbanked and underserved segments of the Philippines.

Under his leadership, RCBC has been recognized as the country’s Best Bank for Digital Solutions for four consecutive years. It is also the first Philippine bank to divest from coal towards cleaner energy alternatives.

On top of being a banker, Acevedo has been actively involved in shaping the Carolinian community through scholarship grants, a smart classroom donation, and leadership functions.

In October 2022, he donated, together with his wife Cenia Natividad Lucas Acevedo, M.D., also a Carolinian, Php2M which was used to build a smart classroom and provide physics scholarships under the Research, Infrastructure, Scholarship, and Endowment (R.I.S.E.) campaign.

Eugene studied physics at USC as a Department of Science and Technology (DOST) scholar. He obtained magna cum laude honors and was the chair of his college student council.

Recently, he has brought his leadership excellence in the banking industry back to USC as he joined the USC Board of Trustees in December 2023.

With Acevedo as part of the Board, the Carolinian community can look forward to a hopeful future as the University continues the Green and Gold legacy.
