SBE holds social entrep workshop for HEIs

SBE invited administrators and faculty representatives from business schools of 14 universities (see photo above) in central and southern Philippines for a seminar/workshop on “Enhancing Competencies of Business Educators in Instruction and Research in Social Entrepreneurship” on May 6 to 7, 2019 at the USC Downtown Campus.

Objectives of the seminar were to capacitate business educators in teaching social entrepreneurship, serving as faculty mentors of budding social enterprises through a business incubator program, and undertaking action research and submitting research outputs for publication.

The focus on social entrepreneurship recognizes its role in mitigating social problems and creating economic and social value. Participating universities were Divine Word College of Legaspi, Carmellite College of Siquijor, Cebu Institute of Technology University, Cebu Technological University-Tuburan Campus, Eastern Visayas State University, Mary Our Help Technical Institute for Women, Mater Dei College, Negros Oriental State University, Saint Joseph College in Southern Leyte, Silliman University, Universidad de Zamboanga, University of San Jose Recolletos, and University of the Visayas.

This event accomplishes one role of the B.S. Entrepreneurship program of the USC Department of Business Administration which is designated as a Center of Excellence in Entrepreneurship by the Commission on Higher Education. Jeff Pilisuk (above left), Programs Manager of the Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship of Santa Clara University, SBE’s academic partner in advocating Social Entrepreneurship in the country, gave an input during the seminar. Fr. Dionisio M. Miranda, SVD, USC President (above right), also interacted with the participants.
