SAFAD hosts research conference on sustainable architecture

The USC School of Architecture, Fine Arts and Design (SAFAD) hosted the 17th Annual Conference on Architectural Research and Education (ACARE) on October 28–29, 2024, at the SAFAD Theater, Talamban Campus.

USC Department of Architecture hosted the ACARE 2024 conference on October 28-29, 2024.

The two-day research conference served as a venue for scholars and architectural practitioners to present various studies in relation to the design and built environment, such as architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, urban design, and the allied fields.

This year’s theme, “Shaping Sustainable Futures: Creative, Resilient and Sustainable Built Space” delved into what sustainability in architecture means for the academe, the students, and the broader Philippine society.

Ar. Adrian Yap, M.S., chair of the USC Department of Architecture, is this year’s event chair. Meanwhile, the following Architecture faculty members were among the presenters:

  1. Bela Lanyi, M.Arch./MA Theo. – “Heritage Consciousness in the Archdiocese of Cebu as experienced through the Publication Process of Church-related Tourist Booklets”
  1. Rowell Shih, Ph.D. – “Optimizing Daylight Performance through Various Shading Devices”
  1. Maegan Bugarin, M.Arch. – “Structural Potential of Bambusa Blumeana and Dendrocalamus Asper”

Other faculty members and alumni of the USC Architecture Graduate program also presented papers and served as moderators and reactors.
