PQCS Editor Peterson Elected ICAHM President

Dr. John Peterson, editor of the Philippine Quarterly of Culture and Society (PQCS), was elected president of the International Committee on Archaeological Heritage Management (ICAHM) during its annual meeting held last December 20, 2017 in Bagamoyo, Tanzania.

Peterson has been editor of PQCS, USC’s flagship peer-reviewed international journal in the social sciences and humanities, since 2010. He is also an adjunct professor of archaeology at the Department of Anthropology, Sociology and History. Peterson was instrumental in the founding of the Kabilin Heritage Center of USC Museum in 2005.

A professor of archaeology and one-time acting vice-president for academic affairs at the University of Guam (UOG), Peterson is currently the director of UOG’s Micronesia Area Research Center (MARC). Prior to his work at UOG, he was director of the Anthropology Research Center and the Asian Studies Development Center at the University of Texas at El Paso. He is currently a member of the Guam Historic Preservation Board, after serving terms on the preservation boards of Texas and Hawaii. He has led projects aimed at community preservation of colonial landscapes in Texas as well as in Cebu.
