Alumni win Best Research Paper in journalism confab

Recent graduates Antoinette O. Marquito and Erica Jill B. Dancel won the Best Research Paper (student category) award in the 3rd National Journalism and Communication Research Congress held on September 21, 2018 at the University of San Jose-Recoletos audio visual hall.

Marquito and Dancel entered their undergraduate thesis entitled, “Facebook as a news source: Its implications to truth and transparency of citizen-generated news.” Their thesis adviser is Department of Communications, Linguistics, and Literature faculty member Dr. Charity T. Turano.

Both Marquito and Dancel graduate cum laude earning their A.B. Communications major in Media degrees in 2018. Marquito is now an assistant information officer of the Department of Labor and Employment, while Dancel is a content writer of Proweaver, Inc.

The congress was organized by the Cebu Association of Communication Educators (CACE) with the theme “Research as a tool to defy threats and risks to communication in the digital environment.”
