Interior Design students Ashley Ramirez (B.S. I.D. 3), Celine Marie Manalili (B.S. I.D. 3), Cristine Arellano (B.S. I.D. 1), and Gabrielle Marie Boyose (B.S. I.D. 1) bagged 3rd place in IDisenyo 2019, an Interschool Competition hosted by the University of the Philippines Interior Design Alumni Association (UPIDAA) and the Chamber of Furniture Industries of the Philippines (CFIP) last March 9, 2019 at the SMX Convention Center Manila. The exhibition and awarding was held coinciding with the Philippine International Furniture Show 2019 (PIFS) and Interior + Design Manila (IDM) last March 6 to 9, 2019.

The winning team, which was called as GAMA, presented a Furniture Design Prototype called “Haum” (Cebuano for “appropriate”) from their “Sikit” (literally in Ceb., meaning “in close contact”) collection in collaboration with a local Cebuano furniture manufacturer, Murillo Furniture, Philippines.

“Sikit” was inspired and conceptualised by the social and cultural issues of Cebuano day to day living. The winning furniture, “Haum,” is a three-piece modular furniture set, called “mama,” “papa,” and “anak,” (Ceb. “child”) that fits together as one clustered unit; each piece has its own design story to tell. The collection showcases “lumpong” (chair/storage) and “sanday” (sofa/bed). Team GAMA received a cash prize and a trophy from UPIDAA. IDr. Hermie Ray Oplado the Program Coordinator for the USC B.S. Interior Design program, was the team’s faculty adviser and design consultant.
