8 faculty members undergo immersion at Mitsumi

From L-R: Engr. Salva, Dr. Canete, Engr. Macapagal, Engr. Patiluna, Engr. Muring, Dr. Querikiol, Engr. Baygan, and Engr. Laranjo.

Eight faculty members from the School of Engineering engaged in the Robotics Engineering Immersion Program of MinebeaMitsumi (formerly Cebu Mitsumi) from August 5-10, 2019 at the company’s facility at the MRI-Special Economic Zone, Sabang, Danao City.

Engr. Joseph Karl Salva, Dr. Edward Querikiol, Engr. Jason Muring (Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering), Dr. Luis Gerardo Canete Jr., Engr. Van Patiluna, Engr. Alvin Joseph Macapagal (Department of Computer Engineering), Engr. Gabriel Dominic Baygan and Engr. Junmar Laranjo (Department of Mechanical Engineering) participated in the six-day comprehensive program facilitated by subject matter experts of the Mitsumi Engineering Division.

The training focused on four modules, namely industrial sensors, electro-pneumatics, vision system, and motors. Each module is coupled with hands-on training of the actual devices used in the manufacturing line. The program ended with a half-day tour of the facility when the participants observed the facility’s production, product tooling department, and power plant.

MinebeaMitsumi will lend their training kits for the four modules to the University of San Carlos as an initiative to impress the importance of the manufacturing sector in the USC’s engineering students. Mitsumi experts, facilitated by USC faculty members, will teach the modules to undergraduate robotics students of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering this first semester AY2019-2020. This is a timely collaboration as the academe pursues Industry 4.0 and prepares to produce graduates who are ready to tackle the demands of the industry.
