Personal Background
Fr. Cyrus T. Mercado, SVD is the Provincial Treasurer of the SVD Philippines Southern Province (PHS). He formerly served as the Vice President for Finance of Holy Name University (HNU) in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, since 2011 before assuming his current position. He is a religious missionary of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) and was ordained a priest on December 14, 2001.
Fr. Mercado started his formation in the SVD as an associate in Christ the King Missions Seminary in Quezon City shortly after obtaining his degree in Applied Economics from De La Salle University and working for China Banking Corporation and General Electric-Philippine Appliance Corp. He then proceeded to complete two master’s degrees, namely an M.A. in Theology major in Pastoral Ministry from the Divine Word School of Theology and a Master in Management from the Asian Institute of Management (AIM).
Raised in Laguna to Pablo and Eden Mercado, his first assignment after ordination brought him to Agusan del Sur as Assistant Parish Priest of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Veruela, while also serving as District Treasurer for the SVD District House. He was briefly assigned as Assistant Vice President for Administration at HNU from 2005–2006 then served as PHS Provincial Treasurer in 2007–2008 after completing his degree at AIM. Fr. Mercado also served as Vice President for Finance for the University from 2007–2011 before his assignment at HNU.
