Metal analysis is performed using a Shimadzu AA-6300 Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer.

Despite its name, the University of San Carlos Water Laboratory offers analytical services for water, soil, ore, and other special samples. Recognized as a standard testing laboratory, the Water Laboratory is accredited as a testing laboratory by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Department of Health (DOH).

The USC Water Laboratory, which is connected with the Department of Chemistry, regularly accepts samples and conducts analyses for external clients including commercial and industrial firms and government units in Cebu and elsewhere in the Visayas, Mindanao, and even some from Luzon.

Recently, the Water Laboratory is also accredited with the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) in compliance with the Chemistry Profession Act (R.A. 10657) and was issued a Certificate of Authority to Operate (CATO), which is required for all chemical laboratories where physico-chemical or biochemical analyses are conducted.

The Water Laboratory also serves as a research and extension arm for students and faculty researchers, offering quality first-hand experience on different analyses involving different types of equipment that supplement the students’ academic training.

Since its inception, the Water Laboratory has widened its scope of analytical capabilities, which is no longer limited to water analyses but also includes soil, ore, and other special samples for testing. Analytical services are offered for:

  • Water analysis
  • Special sample analysis
  • Water sampling services
  • On-the-job training for students in related fields
  • Lectures, demonstrations, trainings, and seminars
  • Laboratory visits (e.g., for students from other institutions)
  • Use of facility
  • Research consultations
  • Chemical solution preparations
