Reopening of the post-war College of Commerce in 1946 saw the offering of a Bachelor of Science in Commerce program with majors in Accounting, General Business, and Banking and Finance, with the latter formally established as a department in 1954 under Jose G. Tecson. This Department of Banking and Finance eventually evolved in 1972 to form the Department of Business Administration, which offered a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (B.S. B.A.) program with majors in Business, Banking and Finance, Marketing, and Management.
These majors were retrenched as the program reverted to a General Business program in the 1980s, even as the College of Commerce attained Level III Federation of Accrediting Associations of the Philippines (FAAP)-accreditation through the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities (PAASCU) evaluation in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Responding to the need for formal training to support the emergence and proliferation of small businesses, new specializations were introduced in the 2000s under dean Fr. Mark C. Mathias, SVD, Ph.D. including B.S. in Management Accountancy, B.S. in Office Administration, and a Master in Business Administration. In 2005, with the emergence of Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Memorandum Order No. 17 (series of 2005), the B.S. in Entrepreneurship program was offered along with several innovative majors in the B.S. B.A. program including a double major in Marketing and Entrepreneurship, Environmental Management, Legal Management, and Executive Resources Management.
In 2008, the Department was designated by the CHED as a Center of Development. In 2016, the Department boasts an unmatched three CHED Centers of Excellence in Business Administration, Office Administration, and Entrepreneurship.

Facilities
Service Operations Business Laboratory Room (SERV-LAB). Features a carpeted open-space room conducive for students to move around and interact with one another. Designed as an incubation room, students develop “thinking outside the box” processes facilitated by faculty mentors.
Manufacturing Operations Business Laboratory Room (MAN-LAB). Miniature production area designed to expose students to various manufacturing operations systems and provide hands-on experience by using available materials in the market.
Boardroom and Office Simulation Laboratory. This laboratory is a prototype of a corporate office equipped with desks, chairs, tables, filing cabinets, computer workstations, and other office equipment for students to simulate processes in a real corporate environment. It also features a mini-conference room used primarily for staff meetings and other activities.
Student life
Easily with the most popular and sought-after programs in the University, the Department of Business Administration boasts the largest student population who are members of the umbrella co-curricular student organization, Society of Young Business Executives and Entrepreneurs (SYBEE). Each program cluster has a corresponding student organization, namely IMAGE for Marketing Management, PEOPLE for Human Resource Management, KAIZEN for Operations Management, FINANCE for Financial Management, BLUE for Executive Resource Management, and PRODIGY for Entrepreneurship. SYBEE is a recipient of the Outstanding Student Organization award for nine consecutive years.

The University of San Carlos awarded an honorary Doctorate in Business and Enterprise Development to John Robinson L. Gokongwei in 2004. Dr. Gokongwei is the founder and chairman emeritus of JG Summit Holdings, Inc.
