ECE students win major awards in IECEP-Cebu academic competitions

A group of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) students from the University of San Carlos won several awards in the academic competitions sponsored by the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines-Cebu Student Chapter (IECEP-CSC) held on September 16, 2023, in SM City Cebu.

Second-year students Neil Christian Bolotaolo, Kenn Loyd Pepito, and Donald Emmanuel Arnibal were declared back-to-back champions in the Math Olympiad. 

Meanwhile, 4th-year students David Noel Tan and Rey Marc Oro together with Mark Joshua Ares and Charles Sosmeña (B.S. E.C.E. 3) grabbed the 2nd place in the Electronics Elite contest. 

In addition, Tan, Oco, Ares, and Sosmeña placed 3rd in the IECEP Quiz Bowl. 

This year’s theme, “Currents of Genius: Illuminating Electronics Engineering Academic Excellence,” was designed to strengthen the ECE field and to promote Electronics Engineering in this highly competitive world. 

The IECEP-CSC competition was held under the supervision of its professional organization, IECEP Cebu Inc. 

The Carolinian team was coached by Engr. Alberto S. Bañacia.
